First Rapid Assessment of Native Plants in Jiangxi finished

After 3-day discussion, 16 experienced experts from 7 botanical gardens and universities completed the assessment of the native plants in Jiangxi province, in central China.

These experts, from Lushan Botanical Garden, Sun Yat-Sen University, Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden, Nanchang University, Jiangxi Agricultural University, Jiangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and GanNan Normal University, survey in the field all the year round, and they are proficient in the distribution and information about the wild plants in Jiangxi area.

They first listed the 4537 plant species according the Flora of China and other authoritative plant lists, and classified them to relevant threatened level.

It finally formed the first draft of the threatened level list, which shows that there are 2 are extinct in the wild, 26 are critically endangered, 81 are endangered, 132 are vulnerable, 328 are near threatened species, 2978 are least concern and 261 species are deficient in data, and 223 cultivated and exotic species also included.

The result will help the field survey to make clear of the native plants in the wild and carry out further conservation targeted of the plants in endanger.
