by Yang Yang views
Recently, Professor Christian Körner from the University of Basel in Switzerland visited the Diqing Baima Snow Mountain alpine ice margin ecosystem field science observation and research station of the Kunming Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences, at the invitation of researcher Sun Hang. Professor Christian Körner is a lifelong professor at the University of Basel in Switzerland, a member of multiple national academies of sciences including Germany and Austria, and the chairman of the Global Mountain Biodiversity Assessment (GMBA). He is also the chief scientist of the Alpine Forschungsstation Furka (ALPFOR) ecological station at the University of Basel. He has published over 400 research papers in the field of alpine plant ecology and plant biology and his academic monographs have been translated into multiple languages including Chinese and published, making him have significant academic influence.

During the visit, Professor Körner combined his observations and research experiences at the ALPFOR ecological station of the University of Basel with the research station personnel at Baima station to have in-depth discussions on the monitoring objectives and future developments of the field station. He also conducted field investigations on the permanent observation plots of the Baima station's alpine ice margin ecosystem. At the same time, based on the characteristics of "low latitude, high altitude alpine" in the Hengduan Mountains and "high latitude, low altitude alpine" in the Alps, he proposed a framework for cooperation between China and Switzerland to conduct scientific research on mountain biodiversity, which received positive response from the institute.
