by Ai Chongrui views

Prof. Yang Jie of Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) was conferred the title of "CAS March 8th Red-Banner Pacesetter" at the meeting themed “Your struggles are the most beautiful” of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) held in Beijing on March 5.

Yang Jie, a professor and doctoral supervisor of XTBG,has made outstanding contributions in her field of work. Rooted in scientific research along China's border for years, she has led or participated in 18 national and provincial-level research projects. Her work has yielded a series of original findings in ecology and plant science, earning widespread international recognition.

Her team maintains China's first 20-hectare tropical forest monitoring plot, establishing a high-frequency, long-term, and precise ecological monitoring system. This effort has generated invaluable, long-term continuous datasets. In response to critical directives concerning the ecological security of the Gaoligong Mountains, she has led nine expeditions into the region. Her team conducted the first quantitative assessment of its ecosystem services and identified potential risks, providing essential scientific evidence for ecological function enhancement and security planning there.

Furthermore, Dr. Yang has pioneered the integration of multi-omics technologies into forest ecology research. Her team mapped the metabolite profiles of 872 tree species, proposing the novel research direction of "community ecometabolomics."

She has also led expeditions to three nature reserves in Thailand. Under challenging conditions, her team conducted large-scale collection and measurement, gathering data on over 1,300 tree species, nearly 17,000 individuals, and more than 200,000 functional trait data points.

Dr. Yang Jie's career exemplifies dedication to China's national ecological civilization, using forests and mountains as her laboratory. Her achievements vividly demonstrate the commitment, scientific excellence, and selfless dedication of women in science and technology in the new era.
